As a requirement, each club must have at least one serving or retired police officer or Community Support Officer on their management committees. The rationale around this requirement is three fold:
* Where projects are the subject of applications for funding, the officer[s] must ensure that such projects fall within or compliment 'local crime reduction strategies';
* The officer[s] ensure that any funding provided is spent in the manner outlined in the application and;
* The officer[s] ensure that any project supported, is capable of being sustained by the group 'after' its completion.
Sports Clubs in the Muslim Community
Working with the UK wide Muslim community we are in the process of forming sports clubs [predominately amateur boxing] within mosques. The pilot, completed in Ilford London has proved very successful and we now intend to roll out the programme across London before moving to other areas of the United Kingdom.Sports coaching in HM Prisons
This project which is ready for roll out will see Police Club's coaches delivering training for sports coaches and officials in prisons throughout the UK.Having been enthusiastically accepted by numerous prison governors, the recipients will be serving prisoners who have been thoroughly vetted to ensure their suitability to subsequently have contact with children & young people.
Upon successful completion of their courses, they will be integrated into the appropriate Police Community Club upon their release where initially they will be mentored and subsequently become integrated into the communities where they will serve as fully qualified sports coaches.
Contender Am Box
This exciting project was piloted by the Metropolitan Police during the school's summer holidays of July and August 2008. This is a bespoke project delivered in 1; 2; 3 and 4 day modules which provide diversionary activities for school children between 12 and 16 years. This pilot has proved to be a resounding success.As a result of this successful pilot, we now intend to deliver the programme across Greater London. This will be achieved by engaging up to 100 National Governing Body trained Police Officers and PCSOs who will deliver the programme to over 3000 youngsters throughout a period of two years.
The programme includes non contact boxing, anti gun & knife crime, truancy & bullying, nutrition and obesity awareness and local community issues. See here for Contender Am Box Programme.
